Erfolgreiche Demonstration gegen Tierversuche und Covance

Mehr als 400 Menschen beteiligten sich am Samstag, 09.07., an einer energischen Demonstration gegen Tierversuche und die Firma Covance in Münster. "Es wurde ein deutliches Zeichen gegen Tierversuche und Tierausbeutung gesetzt", so die Veranstalter. Nachdem am Stadthaus mehrere Reden gehalten worden waren, zog ein Demonstrationszug mehrere Stunden lang von der Innenstadt bis zum Covance Labor im Süden Münsters.

Demonstration gegen Tierversuche und Covance
am 09.07. in Münster

 „Die Fürsorge und der verantwortliche Umgang mit den Tieren sind unsere Hauptanliegen, so wie es auch unser Verhaltenscodex vorschreibt.“ Mit diesen Worten versucht Covance, die immer wieder an die Öffentlichkeit gelangenden Bilder von grausamer Tiermisshandlung schönzureden. Richter Langan, der im Juni diesen Jahres Verbotsverfügungen in Bezug auf Undercoveraufnahmen in England aufhob, nennt die Diskrepanz zwischen Covance´ Anspruch und der Realität, die durch die heimlich gemachten Aufnahmen gezeigt werden, “einen Vergleich zwischen zwei unterschiedlichen Welten”. Wie sollen auch „Fürsorge“ und tödliche Tierversuche zusammenpassen?

 Am Samstag, 09.07., wird mit einer Demonstration gegen Tierversuche und Covance in Münster auf das Leid der Tiere aufmerksam gemacht. Teilnehmer/innen und Redner/innen aus dem In- und Ausland haben sich angekündigt.

Programm:

Ab 11 Uhr Infostände auf dem Domenikanerkirchplatz, Salzstraße Höhe Karstadt von die tierbefreier e.V., PeTA e.V., Münsteraner Initiative für Tierrechte e.V., Menschen für Tierrechte e.V., Ärzte gegen Tierversuche e.V.

Ab 12 Uhr Redebeiträge am Stadthaus in der Klemensstraße in der Nähe der Infostände.

Ab 13 Uhr Demozug durch die Innenstadt bis zum Labor. Dort Abschlussrede von Kevin Kroemmer (die tierbefreier e.V.) gegen 17 Uhr.

Am zentralen Demoplatz in der Münsteraner Innenstadt wird ein regelmäßig geschlagener Gong an die bei Covance getöteten Affen erinnern; für jeden Affen ein Gongschlag.

That´s not a quote from a postion paper of the ALF, that´s the quote of Dr. Friedhelm Vogel, managing director of Covance Laboratories in Muenster, Germany, in a press release from 20.05.05

Covance / Vom Hoff press release

The press release was issued by Vom Hoff Kommunikation GmbH, a PR firm working for Covance in Germany (www.vomhoff.de). The reason for the press release was the new Covance undercover material filmed and published by PeTA. The new material from the Covance lab in Virgina was quite similar to the material that was filmed in the lab in Muenster. The german TV station Pro7 wanted to screen the footage and an interview with a PeTA activist but received a letter by the Covance lawyers www.avocado-law.com threatening legal action. Pro7 ducked and cancelled the screening.

Covance loose court case in the UK

Meanwhile a court in England cancelled the injunction that prohibited groups in the UK to spread the material. Judge Langhan said that the claim by Covance that the care and the responsible handling of the animals are their main aim and the reality shown by the undercover material is a comparison between two different worlds. Covance now have to pay 75.000 Euro for the legal case (they appealed however).

The Demonstration

On Saturday, 9th July, is an international demonstration against vivisection and Covance in Muenster to draw attention to the agony of the animals. Participants and speakers fron different countries have announced their coming. There will be info stalls and speeches during the whole demo. The demo will try to get as near to the lab as possible. A gong at the central place in Muenster will be struck repeatedly during the demo to remeber the killed monkeys at Covance; one strike for every monkey.

Schedule:

Meeting at 11 a.m. at the Domenikanerkirchplatz, on the Salzstrasse near the shopping centre Karstadt (also near the Stadthaus). Infostalls from die tierbefreier e.V., the Muensteraner Initiative fuer Tierrechte e.V., PeTA e.V., Menschen für Tierrechte e.V. and Aerzte gegen Tierversuche e.V. Speeches will be held from about 12 o´clock onwards at the Stadthaus in the Klemensstrasse near the info stalls. The demo will start to move to the lab at about 1 p.m. The distance is 7 km. Speeches will also be held on the way and at the lab. Vegan food will be available. The demo lasts until approximately 5 p.m.

There will be a benefit concert for hardcore fans for the Covance Campaign in the evening.
